About our Conference

Since Drs. Ivan Silver (University of Toronto) and Yvonne Steinert (McGill University) started the concept of an International Faculty Development Conference, there has been 5 years of progress, a summary of which can be seen below.

Five Biannual Conferences:

  • In Toronto, together with CCME, in 2011

  • In Prague, together with AMEE, in 2013

  • In Singapore, together with APMEC, in 2015

  • In Helsinki, together with AMEE, in 2017

  • In Ottawa, together with ICRE, in 2019



Conference goals have included the following:

  • To bring together international faculty development leaders and educators in the academic health sciences

  • To share best practices and current research in faculty development

  • To foster a global community of leaders in the field.


Conference themes have included:

  • Faculty development programs and innovations

  • Research and scholarly activity in FD

  • Developing individuals

  • Interprofessional and team-based learning

  • Workplace learning 

  • Affirming global connections and advancing diversity

Conference activities have included:

  • Interactive plenary sessions and panel discussions

  • Small group discussions

  • Workshops

  • Research presentations and paper sessions

  • Poster sessions

  • Networking events

We are also pleased to announce that the 6th International FACDEV Conference will be held in virtually , together with AMEE in August 2021.
